Ultimate Tigers VIP Safari

Exclusive access for the ultimate in tiger photography

Overview

“On my last three assignments in Bandhavgarh, in just one week in the field, I’ve been blessed with over thirty tiger sightings. Now, I wouldn’t contemplate photographing tigers without a VIP pass.”  Chris Weston

On this very special tiger safari, as a VIP visitor, you have a special permit that allows all-day, out-of-hours access to Bandhavgarh National Park, one of the very best places in the world to see tigers in the wild. Added to that unrestricted routing, enabling us to follow the action, always being in the right place at the right time, and you’ll have the very best opportunities to see and photograph tigers. What’s more, because we can stay in the Park when it’s closed to the general public, very often, we’re in the Park all alone – no crowds, just the wildlife and us, giving you a truly unique photographic experience, unparalleled in India, and a much greater chance of getting that tiger-image-of-a-lifetime.

Our Indian adventure begins in Delhi. On arrival, our local guide provides a sea of calm amid the deluge of noise and colour that is India’s capital. From the airport, we have a short, private transfer to our nearby hotel, where you’ll have time to relax and refresh. In the evening we’ll gather for a group dinner (not included in the price) and a tour briefing. In between, you might want to arrange a visit into ancient Delhi, where you can photograph the intense street life, busy markets and characteristic architecture.

The following morning, we transfer to the airport for the short flight to Jabalpur, crossing the lush green patchwork landscape that leads into the heart of Kipling’s India.

From Jabalpur, we have a private transfer in air-conditioned limousines to King’s Lodge, Bandhavgarh, our home for the next few days. There’s time to refresh and, after a sumptuous lunch, we head into the Park for our first encounter with wildlife.

For general tiger viewing, Bandhavgarh is open twice daily, once in the morning and again in the afternoon, and operates a route system, with vehicles designated specific routes for their game drive. As VIP visitors, we have permits that allow us all-day, out-of-hours access with unrestricted routing, which not only gives us the very best opportunities to see tigers, it also means that, very often, we’re in the Park all alone – no crowds, just the wildlife and us. This provides a truly unique photographic experience, unparalleled in India, and a much greater chance of seeing tigers.

In the Park we travel using specially adapted, open 4×4 safari vehicles, with a maximum of two photographers per jeep, which means you have plenty of space to get the best angles and perspectives. The jeeps are low to the ground, so you get an eye-level view of the animals.

Bandhavgarh is widely considered the best Park in India to photograph tigers. Additionally, on our daily game drives, guided by some of the best naturalists in India, and with the help of the Mahout scouts, we’ll be on the look out for leopard, wild dog, wolves and sloth bear, as well as forest game and over 250 species of birds.

At the end of each day, we leave the Park at dusk and head back to camp, where a warm shower and comfortable sofas await. Evenings are a time to relax, share stories and images, and partake in impromptu photographic lectures and presentations. Then it’s off to bed in preparation for another day in the jungle.

Is this adventure for you?

This safari is perfect for anyone with an interest in observing and photographing wildlife. If you are not a photographer but enjoy being out in nature and don’t mind being patient with the photographers, then it will suit you too. We’ll be in a wilderness area, so you do need an adventurous spirit. The lodges are of a high standard and are not western style bricks and mortar boxes. Safari days entail early starts and late finishes with relaxation time in between. If all of that sounds good, then this adventure is for you.
